Needlework is a skill which could potentially die out if people don't start to recognise the skill in making it.  We are pleased to help keep this beautiful craft tradition alive by making it since 2006.

The history of the Lacework makes it special and unique .  Original use for these ancient techniques and designs was to decorate home textiles and clothing, such as the edges of traditionally printed muslin scarves.

The decorations on the scarves soon became a symbolic language, revealing a secret and unique tool of communication between women in Anatolia. They were a way to express emotions on controversial subjects which were banned from conversation for being considered impure. Through the combination of colour and design the women could express emotions such as passion, hate and sadness .

Needlework technique

The well known "Turkish  Lace" could easily be mistaken for common lacework, but is really a very accurate and meticulous craft created using a fine sewing needle . This style of lacework is realised by knotting small loops with the help of a fine needle. The knitting gets smaller as the knots get tighter. The loops are repeated leaving a fixed space between them.
